Arson and Deliberately Lit Fires

The Sentencing Advisory Council’s Consultation Paper into its first referral from the Attorney-General was released on 20 December 2011.

The Sentencing Advisory Council is committed to giving the members of the community the opportunity to express their views about sentencing issues in Tasmania. 

The purpose of this Consultation Paper is to assist in the discussion about the legislative framework, sentencing options, intervention and community information programs available for adults and juveniles involved in fire setting in Tasmania.

The Sentencing Advisory Council is inviting responses from all relevant stakeholders and members of the community on the range of questions posed in the Consultation Paper. The Council intends to use its responses to inform its advice to the Attorney-General.

Assault on Emergency Workers

The Sentencing Advisory Council Consultation Paper into the second referral from the Attorney-General will be released in early 2012.  The Council will also be inviting responses from relevant stakeholders and members of the community to express their views on the questions posed in the Consultation Paper.

Database

The Council is also in the process of setting up a data base of sentencing practices in Tasmania. The database will improve the availability and usability of sentencing practices and will also be used to support judicial decision making, research and policy making.
